Chris Benjamin Andrews

Chris Andrews was born in Chicago to Mr. and Mrs. Martin and Lillian Benjamin of Gulpashin, Urmia, Iran. She was the Vice President and General Manager of WFTX an affiliate of the FOX Network in Ft. Myers, Florida up to October 1998. Chris now is taking it easy and spending time visiting family and relatives before she takes on another step in her career.

Chris never attended college, but has worked her way up the ranks starting as a secretary for ABC Spot Sales in Chicago after graduating from High School in 1962. In 1965, while working for WLS-TV, Chris got her First Class Radiotelephone License from the FCC and became the first female camera operator in Chicago. From there, she wnt onto work for ARBITRON, a TV and radio ratings firm; Pro Meeker Radio, a national radio rep firm and Storer Television Sales as a national TV represntative.

In 1982 Chris moved from Chicago to Ft. Myers, Florida where she accepted a job as a local sales person at WEVU-TV in Bonita Springs. Over a five year span, she worked her way up to regional sales manager. In January of 1987 she joined WFTX-TV, an affiliate of the FOX network in Ft. Myers, Florida, as a National Sales Manger and in September of that same year, she was named Vice President and General Manager of the same station.

It has been a relatively short road for Chris, from a less-than-impressive beginning as a $70 a week secretary in Chicago to a position that is held only 10% of women in the country. As the Vice President and General Manger of WFTX-TV, Chris oversees every aspect of the operation of the FOX affiliate. She talks with the station's employees warmly on a first-name basis and she appreciates her 90-member staff. Chris Andrews is a strong believer in positive reinforcement; "People do much better jobs if they are happy and appreciated. I adhere to a bubble-up management style. This is an absolutely wonderful company to work for."

Since her arrival at the station eleven years ago, Chris has been instrumental in making WFTX-TV one of the top 25 Fox affiliates in the country. Chris has served on the steering committee for Leadership Lee County and is currently a board member of the Children's Hospital of Southwest Florida and the Florida Association of Broadcasters. Chris is married to Ted Andrews. Her brother David Benjamin, and her parents Martin and Lillian Benjamin, live in Chicago, Illinois.
