John Lazar was elected to the Turlock City Council in 1992, and re elected in 1996. He is employed
as a real estate broker with Coldwell Banker Endsley and Associates in Turlock.
Lazar served as Chair of the Stanislaus County Democratic Central Committee from 1989-91. He
was unsuccessful as a candidate for the State Assembly in 1989, however, ran a very effective
campaign in a special election which included seven candidates.
He as been active in the California Association of Realtors, currently serving as Federal Senate
Coordinator to U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein. He was president of the Turlock Association of
Realtors in 1993.
A Turlock native, Lazar attended Turlock High School, and holds a dual bachelor's degree from
California State University, Stanislaus.
He served as a congressional page in the U.S. House of Representatives during his junior year of
High School in 1976. Upon returning to California he ran for student body president at Turlock
High School.
During his freshman year of college, he volunteered on the congressional campaign of Tony Coelho
in 1977. After Coelho's election to Congress in 1978, he joined his staff in Washington, D.C., and
later served on his district staff.
Lazar joined the staff of then State Assemblyman Gary Condit (Ceres) in 1985, and served as his
legislative aide in Sacramento. He was employed with then-Assemblyman Jack O'Connell (Santa
Barbara) from 1988-91.
Lazar is a member of Saint Francis Episcopal Church in Turlock, the Assyrian American Civic Club
of Turlock, and the Rotary Club of Turlock. Lazar, was chosen Outstanding Young California by
the California Jaycees for 1994-95. He and his wife Nellie, have one son, Nicholas.
