Mr. Andreous Soro passes away Dec 25, 1999


Mr. Andreous Soro, father of His Holiness Mar Kh'nanya Dinkha IV, Catholicos-Patriarch of the Holy Apostolic Catholic Assyrian Church of the East died Christmas day in a hospital in San Jose, California after suffering a stroke. The late Andreous Soro, the son of Qasha Benyamin Qasha Soro was born in the village of Mar Quryaqos in Turkey in 1907. When he was only seven, he along with his family and thousands of Assyrians fled to Iran in 1914 and stayed in Urmia till 1918 when his family and thousands of Assyrians again, fled this time to Mesopotamia and settled in Baquba till 1927.

He served in the Iraq levies and later worked in Baghdad till 1968 when he moved to Iran and stayed with his son. In 1987 the late Mr. Andreous Soro moved to the Unites States with his son Shamasha Izarya and his wife Ludia and two children and they settled in San Jose, California. The late Mr. Andreous Soro was a member of the Mr. Yosip (St. Joseph) Assyrian Church of the East in San Jose, where his son Shamasha Izarya has also been serving as a deacon (Shamasha).

Funeral Service was held at the Mar. Yosip Church of the East in San Jose on Monday, Dec 27, 1999 were there were close to 400 people present. H.H. Bishop Mar Dinkha IV was present and participated in the service along with H.H. Bishop Mar Aprim Khamis of the Diocese of Western United States, headquartered in Phoenix. Arizona along with 12 priests and deacons from the San Jose, San Francisco, Modesto, Turlock, Los Angeles as well as Rev. Dr. Yoshia Sanna of the St. Marry's Assyrian Chaldean Church of San Jose and Rev. Shimshoon Khangaldi and Pastor Albert of the Assyrian Evangelical Church of San jose.

After the service, the body of the late Mr. Andreous Soro was laid to rest at the Oak Hill Cemetery in San Jose and later the 400 or more people were served lunch and they expressed their condolences to H.H. Bishop Mar Dinkha, his brother Shamasha Izarya, his wife Ludia, their son and daughter and other close relatives.
