Dr. Arian Ishaya

Arian Ishaya earned a PH.D. in Cultural Anthropology from UCLA. She is Professor of Anthropology and Ethnic Studies at UC Santa Cruz and De Anza Community College in Cupertino, California.

Dr. Arian Ishaya has done extensive research on modern Assyrian History and has written two books on Assyrian Immigrant Colonies in North America: One published in Canada and an unpublished work on the Turlock-Modesto Immigrant Community. She is a regular contributor of articles published in the Assyrian Academic Journal, published in Chicago, IL and in Nineveh Magazine, published by the Assyrian Foundation Of America in Berkeley, California.

Dr. Arian Ishaya is the author of the entry on the Assyrians in Harvard Encyclopedia of American Ethnic Groups, Encyclopedia Iranica and The Peoples of Canada: An encyclopedia for the country. She has taught Assyrian Language at church and the Assyrian American Association of San Jose.


Dr. Arian Ishaya has been involved in the organization of academic sessions at various Assyrian state and national conventions, she has also been a guest lecturer in American colleges as well as Assyrian Associations and is the editor of Tapestry, a collection of poems in Assyrian and English by the Late William Daniel.
