East is east and west is west, And never the twain shall meet.
But the near east and the middle West did. last night In the La Salle street station. One hundred and fifty Chicagoans, natives of Persia and Assyria, assembled there to welcome as their guest Dr. Jesse M. Yonan, representative of the Christians of their natiolnaity the Paris peace conference.

Headed by Dr.Paul Newey, editor of the Assyrian Advocate, and Samuel B. Yonan, 177 North State street, merchant, the Persians gathered in the station several hours before the "great man's" arrival.

"I went to Paris to represent my people and ask that we be given protection from the Moslems", Dr. Yonan said. " I return now to aid in telling America that even a greater danger than that of the Turk assails my people and her own. That danger is bolshevism. European capitals are full of the news of the spread of this new terror. It must be curbed else it, sweep over all the east.

Dr. Yonan corrected an Impression which he said prevailed among the Christians of Persia concerning his mission in Paris.

"I did not ask that a separate country be given the Christians," he said. "I only asked that we be assured equal rights with the Moslem. The conference granted that, and some time, not now, we are hoping they will make their ........... I say not onto ...... if...... the .......ssible."
